Vivo is like any other Chinese smartphone manufacturing company like Xiaomi, Realme etc. except for the fact that they focus mainly on two aspects- the camera and the looks. But we are expecting the Vivo Y15 features to be a little different.
Vivo, which was founded in the year 2009 decades after the invention of mobile phones, and a rather new brand was one amongst the top ten smartphone makers of the world as of 2015 and it has smartphones in almost all the categories. They have entry-level phones, more of budget ranged and some flagship-level phones as well.
Today, however, we are talking about the Vivo Y15 features and reviewing them for those who have been eyeing on this smartphone for the longest time.
To begin with the Vivo Y15 review we will be having a quick look at its key specifications. Here are those:
|Display||6.35- inch Halo Full View Display|
|Screen Resolution||720 x 1544 pixels|
|Processor||MediaTek Helio P22 octa-core processor|
|Rear Camera||13 MP + 8 MP + 2 MP|
|Front Camera||16 MP|
Vivo has always made an extra effort to make their smartphones different from others in the market. However, when it comes to their series of phones they have more or less the same design. The Y15 model has a plastic back with a glossy finish to it like most of the new smartphones these days. The plastic material saves the panel from shattering or breaking in case of a drop or accident. But, it does attract unnecessary fingerprints. The fingerprint sensor is also placed at the back. There are two color options in this- Aqua Blue and Burgundy Red. The sizing looks pretty usual. It is neither too tall nor too wide but due to the thickness which is about 8.99 mm some might find it difficult to use it one-handed. The volume button, power button, and SIM slot are placed like usual on the right and left sides respectively. You get a MicroUSB port, headphone jack, and the speakers at the bottom. But, we would have preferred a USB-C port with this price. And it does not come with headphones in the box.
The display size on this phone is 6.35- inch and the bezels and chin have the correct width to them. The screen resolution is 720 x 1544 pixels and this is an IPS LCD type display. The low screen resolution is a bummer since there are other phones in the same budget range which have a much better display than this. However, the screen is big enough for you to have a good experience while watching movies. The dewdrop notch is minimum and not a nuisance. As for the brightness, it comes with an auto-brightness mode that can adjust itself according to the user’s needs but it does not prove to be useful and the screen is not eligible to even with this mode turned off.
The most exciting thing about this whole Vivo Y15 review has to be the fact that Vivo finally has the new Android update in its Y15 model. This is called as FunTouch9 and has a lot of new features. The first is a Kid mode app that is very helpful for all the parents by limiting the data usage, time limits for access to the phone etc. Up next, it features the Vivo exclusive voice assistance Jovi which is helpful only to a certain extent for its users. For those who like to indulge in gaming a lot, there is a Game Cube option that blocks all the clocks and notifications while you are playing and you have switched on this option. But, the Vivo Y15 feature that is the most unique is that it allows you to record your gaming sessions as well.
This Smartphone features the MediaTek Helio P22 processor from the year 2018. The Ram is 4GB which is good enough to provide you with a smooth experience. We noticed that this was true for the basic apps and we did not face any interruption even while multitasking but with heavy gaming and large storage apps there was a noticeable problem. Being a mid-budget range smartphone, we did see this coming. The performance is not bad though and the problem is common in almost all phones of this price range.
At the back of the panel, apart from the fingerprint sensor, you will also find a triple setup camera. The primary sensor has 13 megapixels along with an ultra-wide lens of 2 MP and a depth sensor of 2 MP as well. The camera supplication comes with all the needed features like the HDR, Slow-mo, and Panorama etc. All these features are quite efficient like the rear camera setup which clicks amazing pictures which picks up the color with nearly no difference and good detailing. However, during the night or in low light conditions the camera loses all the positives and you can hardly make out even the obvious details.
The battery power on this one is that of 5,000 mAh and is supported by smart power-saving technologies that further extend its efficiency. But it does not come with fast charging and the battery goes to 100% from zero in a matter of almost 3 hours.
|Stylish design||Does not have a USB-C port|
|Decent performance||No fast charging|
|Comes with added features||The brightness isn’t enough for sunlight|
|Takes good pictures in daylight|
|Good battery backup|
These were all the Vivo Y15 features listed above. No doubt this is a good budget range smartphone from Vivo with good locks, decent performance, and enough battery backup.
But, if you do not mind the lack of fast charging and can wait for 3 hours to charge the phone completely you have nothing to worry about. This Vivo Y15 review had everything you need to know before deciding if you want to buy this smartphone or not.
