Invention of mobile phone technology uses the concept for cellular communication which has evolved dramatically and rapidly over the years. Over time, it is difficult to imagine a free time without using mobile phones connecting us to many people around the world. Features like being able to change our background, type with a full keyboard, and sending unlimited messages were all developed and founded over a long period. A lot of changes occurred since the first invention of mobile phones decades ago. But, how did the technology become so advanced? Here we have listed to show you the history of the invention of mobile phones technology.

The idea of a cell phone begins from the Model 202 – Bell system which was the first telephone with an oval-shaped phone that was connected to a dial block. There were many models created based on the bell system.

The communication by the mobile radios became more common. Many government agencies as well as rich people owned mobile radios. Then, AT&T and Bell Labs invented cellular technology. Mobile telephones for all automobiles became accessible from some telephone companies. The previous devices were heavily weighted, consumed a large amount of power, and supported only a few simultaneous conversations by the network.  Although, mobile phone technology was not developed worldwide. Modern cellular technology allows automatic and extensive use of voice and data communication.

The researchers have developed the technology systems (like frequency reuse and handoff) which would be leading the modern cellular networks. In the US, Bell Labs was preparing a detailed plan to implement the cellular technology system. Soviet engineer Leonid Kupriyanovich developed several mobile phones that looked amazingly similar to modern-day mobile technologies. Then, AT&T also developed a prototype for the first generation cellular mobile communication technology, creating the improved mobile telephone service, which provided more simultaneous calls in a given geographic area, customer dialing and reducing the size and weight of the device.

1G was promoted by AT&T and Bell Labs early in the decade. Testing cellular technology and equipment designing were begun by Nippon Telephone and Telegraph ( NTT ) in Japan and Ericsson in Sweden. The first successful public commercial mobile phone network was launched in Finland by Autoradiopuhelin (ARP) network.

Martin Cooper, a Motorola researcher and executive is the mastermind behind the invention of mobile phones. He invented the first analog cell phone in the market. The first call was made between Cooper and Joel S. Engel of Bell Labs using a heavy prototype. Motorola became the first company to establish the first handheld mobile phone.

Mobile phone technology started releasing commercially with rapidity. The addition of text messaging functionality to mobile technologies begins. The Motorola Dyna TAC 8000X became the first mobile phone in the market in the US, which costs US$ 4000.

Martin Cooper was credited with developing the technology. Another handset launched known as Motorola Micro TAC 9800X, which became the first phone which featured a flip-down, and also the smallest and lightest phone available at that time. The handset took ten hours to get charged and allowed talk time of just thirty minutes. Inspire of short battery life, bulky weight, and low talk time the handset was in demand among the consumers. Another important launching was of the lithium-ion battery, invented by John Goodenough, Rachid Yazami, and Akira Yoshiko. It became crucial as an energy source for cell phones.

During the decade, telecommunications was revolutionized by mobile technology. 2G, wireless telephone technology was available, bringing the first digital systems to be installed. Also, the GSM call was made by the Finnish Prime Minister in the country. Nokia 1011 was launched, which was the world’s first mass-produced phone using the GSM digital standard. It comprises a monochrome LCD screen, extendable antenna, and a memory capable of storing 99 phone numbers. IBM Simon, featuring a touch screen was released and was considered by many to be the world’s first smartphone.

The Global System for mobile communication (GSM) networks evolved into General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and became available in the market. Sharp Corporation launched the Sharp J-SH04 mobile phone, which was the first phone with a built-in camera of 110,000 pixel CMOS and a color display of 256. Then, Nokia 5510 was set in motion, featuring a full QWERTY keyboard. Later on, 3G, wireless mobile telecommunication technology was launched in Japan. Gradually, Android was acquired by Google. This showed the seriousness of Google about mobile technology. Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple launched the Apple iPhone. It featured a finger-input touchscreen, without any keyboard. Lastly, WhatsApp messenger was introduced to provide a better communication hub.

Smartphone technology took place over a massive development. Whereas, the International Telecommunications Union decided that two technologies, LTE-Advanced and WiMAX completely fulfill the conditions required for 4G networks. Much later the first invention of mobile phones, the WiFi hotspot came into the hands of common users. The Personal Hotspot feature was introduced which allowed an iPhone user to use as a wireless hotspot, connecting up to five devices at one time.

Later, Apple also announced the WiFi calling for iPhone users with iOS 8. This technology was integrated into the new features which allowed the users to make and receive calls as well as send messages through a WiFi connection rather than using their data plan. However, over time WhatsApp call was introduced for Android and iOS enabling the users to make phone calls over the internet.

Many experts believe that the future of computer technology will be dependent on mobile computing with wireless networking technology. However, after the invention of mobile phones in the 1970s, they were developed from simple cell phones to smartphones. Today, everything is done on your mobile phones like making calls, sending messages, everyday transactions, browsing the internet, etc. In the next five years, we will see many more traditional businesses getting driven out by mobile technologies. Change is occurring very quickly with time, mobility is now creating an ecosystem across education, healthcare, entertainment, lifestyle, finance, and retail.
