When you compare the budget range to high-end you will see a relatively more number of options available in there. This Redmi 5S review belongs to the former.
There are so many options you can choose from when you are buying a budget smartphone. Ever since the invention of mobile phones, we never lacked in variety and at this time it is better than ever.
Amongst the various other brands, the one which has not been left behind is Realme. They too have a lot of smartphones to choose from. These belong to different price ranges, memory, camera features etc.
However, for today we will be limiting ourselves to the Realme 5S review and see where it stands in front of its competing models from the same as well as different brands. But, before we do that here are the key specifications to kickstart this Realme 5S review.
|Processor||Qualcomm SDM665 Snapdragon 665Octa-Core Processor|
|Display||6.5- inch LCD touchscreen|
|Front Camera||13 MP|
|Rear Camera||48 MP+ 8 MP + 2MP +2 MP|
|Storage||64 GB and a 128 GB variant|
Realme 5S Specifications in Detail
The first measure for any phone review has to be the design and the same goes for Realme 5S review. Realme has tried its best to make the 5S model stand out amongst others by giving it a diamond-cut pattern on the back. The thickness is about 9.33mm and you might find it looking similar to the Realme 5 like I do. The in-hand feel is similar as well. Moreover, the fingerprint sensor placed at the back makes it so much easier. The phone has got thin bezels but one cannot ignore the chin. You get three color options here- Crystal Blue, Crystal Purple and Crystal Red, and polycarbonate back. Overall, there is nothing bad about the display apart from the similarities to its previous model.
You get a 6.5- inches display as we have already mentioned in the Realme 5S specifications table. The screen to body ratio is 89% and the contrast ratio, 1200:1. The screen comes with pre-protected and has a Corning Gorilla Glass 3+ protection to protect it from the tiniest scratches and I appreciate that. Screen resolution of 1600 x 720 isn’t the best out there and that is the only thing I am complaining about in the display. And yes, it comes with a Night Shield mode as well to keep you comfortable in low light conditions.
You will see similarities in Realme 5S and Realme 5 in terms of the software as well. It comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 Octa Core Processor which is perfect for smartphones in this price range and the operating system is ColorOS 6.1. There are also two variations in terms of storage i.e. 64GB and 128 GB. The RAM remains 4GB on both. Realme 5S has 4G VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802. 11 ac, and Bluetooth.
The processor on this one has already been mentioned above and it does have a lot of pre-installed apps. And the worst part, the user cannot even uninstall it. This model from Realme is often compared to the Redmi Note 8 but in terms of performance, it surely leaves the opponent behind. When you are normally using the smartphone switching between different basic applications you will not be interrupted but in case of heavy gaming be prepared for hiccups and lagging. However, when you are doing a little more than usual and not gaming, as in editing images or searching the web there is nothing to worry a lot about. But, what more can you expect from a smartphone priced at 10,999.
A quad camera is so common these days and we are not surprised with the Realme 5S. the Realme 5S specifications talk about the rear camera of 48 MP+ 8 MP + 2MP +2 MP. But, the question is how does it perform? You do get basic features like Video, Photo, and Portrait mode but not a Night mode for some good pictures in the dark. But, as far as the camera setup is concerned, it is amazing. You get a 48 MP main sensor, 8 MP wide-angle camera, 2 MP depth sensor, and a 2 MP macro sensor as well. In broad daylight, you get some great pictures that have good colors, properly toned, and great contrast. The macro sensor isn’t that great but if you have skills you can click some good images there as well. However, the clicks do suffer evidently in low light.
The battery on this one is 5000 mAh which is the same for the Realme 5 model as well. This is a great battery capacity for a smartphone in this budget. Once the battery is fully charged you can easily use it for continuous 2 days if you do not play heavy games, watch a lot of Netflix and YouTube. However, it doesn’t come with fast charging which is a huge disadvantage as it will take between 2 and a half to three hours to get fully charged.
Pros And Cons
|Impressive design||Heavy weighted|
|Tough build quality and pre- protected display||No fast charging|
|Good battery capacity||The camera does not have night mode|
|Sharp and good contrast pictures in daylight|
Realme 5S is an addition to the already existing 5 series from Realme and is priced at 10,999 for the 64GB variant.
Most of the things about this smartphone are good except for a few things here and there. The display is good but it would be better if it had an HD screen. The design is a good one with rounded edges and a good one-hand feel. However, it is a little bit heavy and difficult to use in one- hand mode.
The performance won’t disappoint you if you are not a gamer since the processor doesn’t allow you heavy gaming.
The cameras are average as well in daylight and the battery capacity is enough.
So, if you have want to get a Realme phone under a budget that has good storage, great design, and enough battery capacity this Realme 5S review is the one for you.
